FIRST FRENCH TRANSLATION. 2 volumes bound in 1. 12mo, 166 x 97 mms., pp. [ii], viii, 206; [ii], 232, contemporary French mottled sheepskin, spine ornately gilt in compartments, booksellers ticket of Jean Clavreuil, Paris, on front paste-down end-paper; lacks folding engraved frontispiece, some slight worming to binding, but an attractive copy. This appears to be a translation of An Authentic Account of Forgeries and Frauds of Various Kinds, committed by Charles Price, otherwise Patch, published in numerous editions in 1786. Another similar work was The Life of that extraordinary character, Mr. Charles Price, wherein are described the various Artifices he made use of in circulating his Forgeries on the Bank, a shorter work of 68 pages published by James Ridgway in 1886. ESTCN17733 locates copies in Cambridge and Leeds in these islands; and in Cornell, Yale, and UCLA in North America; and the Silesian Library, Katowice, Poland.
