Title: Reflections upon Learning; Wherein is shewn the Insufficiency Thereof, in its several Particulars: In order to evince the Usefulness and Necessity of Revelation. The Sixth Edition. By a Gentleman.
Description: London: Printed for James and John Knapton...and Richard Wilkin..., 1727 8vo, pp. [xvi], 288, contemporary calf, rebacked, spine blocked in blind. A contemporary hand identifies Baker as the author on the title-page. Baker's very popular work gave succour and comfort to those who found the new discoveries and innovations in science and philosophy, mostly notable those of Locke and Newton, likely to displace the role of faith in religion. Baker essentially argues that empirical reasoning and knowledge can never produce the certainty found in revelation.
