Jerningham (1737 - 1812) is usually regarded as more of a dilettante than a "real" poet, and his poetry is seldom encountered in anthologies of 18th century verse. Seeing him in Bath in 1780, Fanny Burney described him as "a mighty delicate gentleman; looks to be painted, and [he] is all daintification in manner, speech, and dress … (whom Lord Mulgrave calls a pink-and-white poet, for not only his cheeks but his coat is pink)." This volume contains his short play, Margaret of Anjou.
