Description: London, Printed for S Hooper..., 1788. 12mo, 160 x 90 mms., pp. vii [misnumbered vi, viii blank], 310 [311 - 312 adverts], engraved frontispiece, engraved title-page, contemporary calf, rebacked in lighter calf, gilt title on spine; slight wear to extremities, but a good copy. George Wright published several collections of this sort; this is the second edition of this particular work, the first having been published in the preceding year. One of the early essays (pp. 28 - 31) has been annotated with the initials "D. D." at the end of the essay. Pleasing Reflections attracted a short notice in The Monthly Review for 1788: "Miscellaneous collections, of this kind, are become very numerous; but as they generally consist of moral pieces, they are, to say the least of them, innocent as well as entertaining. The multiplication, therefore, of such compilements, is of no disservice to society. The pocket volume now before us, is calculated for the instruction, as well as the amusement, of young people, of both sexes The Editor is Mr. Wright, whose former publication of a similar nature, we have noticed, as to subserve the good purposes of religion and virtue."
