Title: The City of Shadows, and other stories
Description: London, Digby, Long & Co. 1902, First Edition. Hardcover. Book, Bevelled boards, red cloth with blind-stamped decoration, gold lettering; back cover damp-stained, spine faded, page edges browned, but overall clean, sound and bright. The title story has lost-race elements, about an abandoned city in the wilds of Paraguay, discovered by English explorers. The other two stories, Passions Spin the Plot and The Holding up of the Casa Carmen, an incident of the Argentine revolution of '90, both also set in South America, are rather melodramatic romantic adventure. Not at all badly written; scarce. Have been able to find out very little about this book or the author; he seems also to have published a book of poems, and an article about South American life in a New Zealand periodical in 1899. Good Plus/No Jacket.
