B&W Map; 9.10 X 6 X 0.60 inches; 77 pages; Hard cover is illustrated paper covered boards with a blue cloth spine. Silver lettering on the spine. Boards have light rubbing, bumping, scuffing, sunning and some spotting on back and side of textblock. Leaves through page 4 have a shallow crease on upper corner. Pages are clean and tight. Illustrated with a b/w map of the Plan of Private Claims in Michigan Territory as surveyed by Aaron Greeley D. Surveyor in 1810, on front and rear endpapers. Frontispiece is a b/w photo of Burton. Burton [1853-1932] graduated from University of Michigan Law school. 'Clarence M. Burton is known for his historical research and scholarship. Throughout his life, he collected a library of tens of thousands of books, pamphlets and manuscripts related to the history of Detroit, of Michigan and of the old Northwest. In 1915, Burton donated his collection to the Detroit Public Library. Burton also authored several books and pamphlets on history topics. Some of his most famous works include The City of Detroit, Michigan, 1701-1922; A Sketch of the Life of Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, Founder of Detroit; and In the Footsteps of Cadillac'. Clarence Burton’s collection is now featured at the Detroit Public Library’s main branch in the world famous Burton Historical Collection, an archive of immense importance, which has grown dramatically since its inception..
