Title: Motor City Mafia a Century of Organized Crime in Detroit
Description: San Francisco, CA: Arcadia Publishing, 2006. Paperback. ISBN: 0738540846. Images of America Series; B&W Illustrations; 9.20 X 6.40 X 0.40 inches; 127 pages; Soft cover has white lettering in black box on spine. Faint shelf wear, rubbing. Pages are clean and tight. Illustrated with many b/w photographs. One of the most interesting, and ruthless of the Detroit mobs was the notorious Purple Gang. They had a deal with al Capone, he'd stay out of Detroit, and they'd stay out of Chicago, although they may have been hired to do the infamous 'St. Valentine's Day Massacre'. There are still open murder cases that are believed to have been carried out by the Purple Gang. Also has a section on Teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa, who's disappearance in 1975 has never been solved [personally, I believe he's buried under an interchange of the Jeffries and Southfield freeways]. Interesting view of Motor City underworld.. Near Fine .
