With an extensive alphabetical register of games (a.o. chess, cards) and names (many classic authors), but it enables you also to find out about players uttering blasphemies and an answer to the question if priests may take part in hunting. Barbeyrac (1674-1744) was a talented lawyer, born in France, who started his career in Switzerland and Germany, translated many important juridical works into French (by Grotius, Bynkershoek, Pufendorf, Tillotson and others), and finally was professor of public law in Groningen (Netherlands). Pierre Humbert (c. 1680-1758) was a Huguenot, a publisher of French books in Amsterdam and a bookseller. Interesting in vol. 1 is a 4-p. advert of his, listing solely antiquarian books in Italian and Spanish, a.o. by Guicciardini (one dated 1588), Lulius and Pallavicini, and a Don Quixote.
