Binding soiled and ticket worn. In the middle, two quires slightly protruding. Title a bit spotted and with a vague name. Some marginal notes and underlinings. A few tiny paper repairs. Two 20th century catalogue entries pasted in at the lower inside cover. "The Satyricon of Euphormio Lusininus, in Five Parts, with a key, and an addition about the Gunpowder Plot". A political satire directed against the Jesuits. Barclay (1580-1621), a Scotsman grown up in France, is considered one of the last humanists, 'un des derniers feux de l’humanisme'. The five Parts have been dedicated to important politicians and rulers, such as Robert Cecil and King Louis XIII. This is one of several 17th century reprints of the complete edition.
