(ART NOUVEAU), (TURBAYNE, Albert Angus), L.E. - Silhouetten.

Title: Silhouetten.
Description: Amsterdam, Van Holkema & Warendorf, 1909. Decorated cloth. VIII, 280 pp. 3rd edition. Spine slightly discolored. Vague little spots on lower cover, but a very good copy. Old name on flyleaf. The extremely attractive Jugendstil bookbinding, executed by Elias P. van Bommel, has been copied directly from the famous peacock designed for publisher Macmillan by American born, Canada-educated British citizen Albert Angus Turbayne (of Scottish descent). It was used for gilt bindings and colored endpapers, but in exactly the same coloring for Macmillan's Peacock series advertisements of the 1890's. This book, written by Frauck J.G.W.C. Engelberts (1880-1929; not Louise, as she is often called), was first published in 1906 and from the start furnished with this stunning binding.
