Small octavo, early black quarter leather, gilt rules and gilt lettering (Parley's Franklin) at spine, plain blue paper boards, double-engraved fronts. vignette title, 180pp. engraved tailpieces at preface and contents, five full-page engraved illustrations. Boards are quite rubbed, corners worn, a few small scrapes at spine; front free endpaper starting from the top, but a long way from detaching. Scattered foxing, in some places heavy, though the illustration leaves are not very remarkably affected. Bookseller's ticket (W. and S.B. Ives, 232 Essex Street, Salem) at corner of front paste-down endpaper, and early owner's signature with flourish at recto fronts.
