Title: The Christian Year: Thoughts in Verse for the Sundays and Holydays Throughout the Year
Description: John Henry and James Parker, 1863. Hardcover . Octavo, gilt-decorated bevelled vellum with red morocco inlay at front board, viii + 383pp. all edges gilt, detached ribbon page-marker. Hand-decorated presentation leaf preceding title, for "Edith/Marcia/Caroline/Thynne/In Grateful Recollection/From the Village Choir of/St Mary Frampton/June III MDCCCLXIV", with decorated initials, and some heightening in gold. Just visible at fly-leaf, embossed stamp of Masters of New Bond Street. A little separation at endpaper over front hinge, nothing threatenting, some foxing around presentation leaf, not detracting significantly from the appearance of the illustration, more obvious facing, and at verso. Mild and inextensive staining at vellum, volume sound, square, and text clean throughout. A charming book. Edith, 1836-1876, was great grand-daughter of playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan, and wife of Francis John Thynne, Deputy Lieutenant of Bedfordshire. Good.
