Thick, small octavo, brownish-black leather, gilt lettering at spine, ornate brass bumpers at top corners only, lacking at bottom, gilt inner dentelles, moiré endpapers,engraved fronts. xii + 780pp. + 160pp. + 16pp. all edges gilt, one further full-page engraving. Boards just a little splayed, some staining at endpapers, foxing/staining largely confined to prelims. margins, text scarcely affected. Late joint exposed, but holding without problems on cords, overall still a sound, perfetly usable copy.
