Large octavo, full black leather with west front of York Cathedral in blind at each board, and further architectural relief at spine, along with lettering in gilt; 927pp. [1]; 286pp. in double-column, all edges gilt. Rubbed fairly lightly, chiefly at extremities, endpapers split over hinges, front board starting slightly, no danger of detachment, cords holding well, with text block generally firm. A touch of worm at front hinge, bottom margin slightly affected, nothing carrying through text block. Leaf and adjoining title starting a little; one gathering also starting (slightly 'proud') but not detaching. Early owner inscription facing title; endpapers smudged/soiled, not particularly serious, foxing largely confined to early and late leaves, or marginal, text scarcely affected. A reasonably well-preserved 'cathedral binding'. Early bookseller's label (H. Brown, Penrith) at corner of front paste-down. Heavy: please ask for shipping rate.
