Shakespeare. RUSDEN, G.W. [George William]. - William Shakespeare; his life, his works, and his teaching.

Title: William Shakespeare; his life, his works, and his teaching.
Description: Melbourne, Melville & Mullen 1903. Largish octavo publisher's cloth (a few signs of wear); viii,410pp. ¶ Measured by size and weight this is a significant colonial contribution to Shakespeare studies. I don't imagine that the larger world of Shakespearian scholars took much notice but then I don't imagine they take much notice of anyone except to look for errors. Even after decades of enthusiastic Shakespearianism Rusden's ambitions are modest: he hopes the 'authorities at Stratford-on-Avon will permit this humble tribute to find a place in their library' and 'if' this book makes any profit it goes to the Shakespearean scholarship at Melbourne University. This was his last book, he dated his preface on his 84th birthday in July and died in December 1903.
