Title: Catalogue of Engravings, after the finest pictures of the schools of Europe; systematically arranged ... index to the subjects ... a list of works in progress, or recently completed: forming part of the stock of Hodgson and Graves.
Description: London, Hodgson & Graves 1836. Octavo modern 'art' morocco with the original titled cloth from the front board laid down; viii,212 [of 214]pp. Top trimmed from the title, some browning and a leaf missing. ¶ A bit sad, this somewhat flawed copy of an extensive and invaluable catalogue of the stock of the heirs to Boydell is unappealingly if solidly bound and has as said a piece cut from the top of the title page. More disturbing is the lack of p193/4 which contains W to Z of their list of books. However, the catalogues of engravings and index are complete and are certainly useful to any afficionado of engravings of the later 18th and earlier 19th centuries. Listed - wherever applicable - are dimensions, the cost of prints, proofs, special proofs and coloured copies.
