Description: London, Chapman & Hall [1880]. Two volumes octavo, bound together in half red morocco (a touch scuffed); numerous wood engraved plates & illustrations, folding map. Ex parliamentary library with their gilt insignia on front board & incorporated into the spine, no other markings. Occasional light browning, a handsome copy. ¶ One of the South Kensington Museum Art Handbooks. A large section of the first volume is devoted to the Hindu pantheon, the second part is on the master handicrafts: gold, silver and other metal work, damascene and enamels. The second volume continues with arms, trappings and caparisons, jewellery, art furniture and household decoration, musical instruments, textiles, pottery and ends with a look at knot and flower patterns.
