Publisher’s original forest green cloth with spine lettered in gilt and with gilt panel lines at the top and bottom of the spine, the front and rear cloth-covered boards have blind-stamped vertical lines at the top, dark brown endpapers, sm 8vo. Lyell wrote this special version of “Elements of Geology” for British students so they could grasp the complex details of Earth history. This copy was the Queen’s Prize awarded to William R. Bower by the Science and Art Department of the Committee of the Council on Education, South Kensington. A bookplate on the front endpaper presents this award. No other ownership marks and few signs of use. A tight and clean copy in near fine condition..
