Title: The Lake and Brook Lampreys of New York; Especially Those of Cayuga and Seneca Lakes
Description: Ithaca, NY: Wilder Quarter-Century Book, 1893. First edition. Pp. 412-493; 8 plates (5 are black-and-white photos, 3 are large folding line-drawings and stipple drawings). Later brown cloth, lettered in black on the spine, 8vo. The lamprey is an eel-like jawless fish that lives in coastal and freshwaters. From the research collection of herpetologist Lauren E. Brown with his signature on the front endpaper. There is an earlier signature of Albert R. Shadle on the title page. Dr. Albert R. Shadle (1885–1963) was an American biologist noted for his research into porcupines and beavers. From 1919 until 1953, Shadle served as chairman of the biology department, and was instrumental in the advancement of science education at the State University of New York at Buffalo. A few annotations in pencil to the text, likely in the hand of Albert Shadle. Small water stain to outer margin of frontis plate, joints to some folding plate reinforced with archival tape, a very good copy..
