This first printing is one of the rarer Wallace titles since it was later brought out in a combined edition in 1891 entitled “Natural Selection and Tropical Nature”. From the research collection of herpetologist Lauren E. Brown with his signature on the half-title page. Inscription on the front blank endpaper states: “Bought from Quaritch, 1922, Cat. 370, p. 41, item 463, price 14/-”. Rare. Light edge wear to cloth at the outer corners, a bright and clean copy in near fine condition..
