Publisher’s original dark green cloth lettered in gilt on the spine and with gilt devices to spine and upper board, thick lg 8vo. The first expedition under Sladen proceeded as far as upper Burma and Yunnan. The author, John Anderson, was attached as the naturalist, as he was superintendent of the Calcutta Museum. The second expedition was not so successful owing to the murder of A. R. Margary, who had traveled ahead. This was the first account of the expedition, an enlarged version with details of natural history appeared in 1878-1979. This volume is ex-library from the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute circulating library with a bookplate on the front endpaper and oval ink stamps on the title page and on the verso of preliminary maps and charts. From the research collection of Kraig Adler, herpetologist from Cornell University with his small bookplate on the front endpaper. Cordier 328. Expertly rebacked with the original cloth laid on the spine, some flecking to cloth on front and rear covers; a tight copy in very good condition..
