This work was first to identify all 660 species of reptiles and amphibians known from the continent of Australia with extensive keys to all of the species. According to many authorities, it is the most important book ever published on Australian reptiles. This is the first edition. The book went through a total of seven editions. From the research collection of Illinois State University herpetologist Lauren E. Brown with his signature on the front endpaper. The top of the spine cloth shows some sunning, there is some chipping and wear to the dust jacket along the top spine edge, overall a tight copy in very good condition..
