One-half burgundy leather over purple pebbled-cloth boards, spine with eight sets of gilt-panel lines, spine lettered in gilt in four compartments, and with gilt emblem of the General Assembly of New Zealand Library on the front board, marbled endpapers, page edges decorated in faint red dots, lg 8vo. From the series: United States National Museum Bulletin no. 29. Leonhard Hess Stejneger (30 October 1851-28 February 1943) was a Norwegian-born American ornithologist, herpetologist and zoologist. From 1882 to 1883, while working for the Smithsonian, Stejneger took part in an exploration mission to Bering Island, the Commander Islands and Kamchatka. The result was this review of the species of birds collected or observed. This was Stejneger's first major monograph (from Wiki). This volume is ex-libris from the General Assembly of New Zealand Library with its emblem on the front cover and gilt call number on the spine. There are no other library marks or any ownership marks. Mild bump to top outer front corner, light edgewear to outer joints, a few creases in the plate tissue guards, a bright and clean copy in near fine copy..
