Title: Flora Agaricina Danica, Vol. I-V complete, bound in two volumes, with 200 fine chromolithographs
Description: Copenhagen, Denmark: Danish Botanical Society, 1935-1940. First edition. Pp. (text): xxiv, 90 + 105 + 96 + 119 + 105, index; Pp. (plates): 200 chromolithographs; bound in two volumes with all 12 original gray printed wrappers bound in place. Original moss green cloth lettered in gilt on the spine, and with gilt panel lines at the top and bottom of the spine, lg 4to (12 ½ x 9 ½ inches). Published under the Auspices of the Society for the Advancement of Mycology in Denmark and the Danish Botanical Society. 1935-1940. One of the technically finest chromolithographed books ever produced. More than a thousand species are described. The descriptions are brief because most specific details can be seen, and the author even recommends that they should be examined with a lens (see also Nissen BBI:1132). According to G.C. Ainsworth (Introduction to the History of Mycology): ""Flora agaricina Danica are both scientifically invaluable and superb examples of modern printing."" This two-volume set is from the private collection of University of Michigan mycologist Alexander H. Smith. No ownership marks and few signs of use. Some edge rubbing to the cloth of both volumes, some scratches to the rear cover of the second volume, all text pages and chromolithographs are very bright and clean; overall, a very good copy..
