Pp. viii, 420; color frontispiece from painting by Harry Johnson, 36 full page black-and-white photo-plates, 701 text-figures (woodcuts and halftones). Publisher's original one-half dark green polished calf leather over marbled boards, spines with five raised bands each outlined with gilt panel lines, the title is lettered in gilt on a red morocco in one compartment and the authors are blind-stamped in gilt in anther compartment, light brown endpapers, all page edges speckled in red, thick sm 4to. A turn-of-the-last-century account of the plant sciences with great illustrations. No ownership marks and few signs of use. Light rubbing to the outer joints and to the outer corners; the text is bright and clean; a tight copy in near fine condition..
