Title: Development of Viviparous Osseous Fishes and of the Atlantic Salmon
Description: Washington: Government Printing Office, 1885. First edition. Pp. 128-162; 7 full page plates. Later orange cloth, lettered in black on the front cover, lg 8vo. Proceedings of the United States National Museum for 1885. A second paper by John Ryder is bound in at the end: ""On the value of the Fin-Rays and their characteristics of development in the classification of the fishes, together with remarks on the theory of degeneration,"" pp. 71-82 (1886). There is an old circular blind stamp of the Field Columbian Museum Library on the first title page. On the title page of the second paper is an old ink-stamp of Carnegie Museum and the small name stamp of ichthyologist Robert Anderson. There are no other library marks or any other ownership marks. Rare work. The title page is a little soiled and the final plate is missing the inside corner; a tight copy in very good condition..
