This is the rare first edition of this major taxonomic work in four parts (1917-1920) accompanied the third printing of Jordan's A Classification of Fishes (1939). The introductory note to A Classification of Fishes states that this volume, first published in 1923, was meant to accompany the four memoirs entitled The Genera of Fishes from Linnaeus to Cuvier, 1758-1920. The entire five volume set is offered here. It is seldom offered as a complete set. No ownership marks in the first four volumes; the final volume bears the name of David K. Caldwell on the front endpaper. Gilt is uniformly dull (but readable) on the spine of all five volumes, light edge wear to the top and bottom of the spine of all volumes; a bright and clean set in near fine condition..
