(6), 66, (6); 10 full-page black-and-white plates or full page line-drawings, each with a descriptive leaf of text, 1 map, 23 text-figures (line-drawings). Original printed olive green wrappers, 4to. This monograph describes the Pliocene and Pleistocene fossil mammals of northern China. The senior author is the great French paleontologist and philosopher, Pierre Teilhard De Chardin. Teilhard De Chardin worked in China as a vertebrate paleontologist from 1926 into the early 1940s. He served as an excavator at Zhoukoudian, the now-famous 'Peking Man site' and wrote many papers on the discoveries made at Zhoukoudian. From the series: Palaeontologia Sinica, Series C, Volume 9, Fascicle 1. The text is in English. From the research library of anthropologist Robert H. Lowie with his name-stamp on the front endpaper. Later from the research library of physical anthropologist Theodore D. McCown with his name-stamp on the front wrapper. The last owner of the work was Elizabeth R. McCown (wife of Theordore D. McCown) with her name-stamp also on the front wrapper. Two of these researchers were professors in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California at Berkeley. Robert Lowie was a faculty member from 1925 to 1950 when he retired. McCown was a faculty member from 1938 to 1969 when he died. His wife, ""Libby"" McCown was awarded a Ph.D. from U. C. Berkeley in the late 1970s. This is a rare work with significant associations. Wrappers on the spine are partially chipped away, light sunning to the outer margins of the wrappers, a tight and clean copy in very good condition..
