Title: On the Appendicular Skeleton of the Primates.
Description: London: Royal Society, 1867. First edition. Pp. 131; 4 full page lithographic (half-tone) plates, 1 full page figure. One quarter red cloth over cream-colored wrappers, lettered in black on the front cover, (original plain pale green wrappers bound in place), 4to. From: Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol.157. Mivart originally supported Darwin's theory of natural selection but later became a fierce opponent. This work explores the comparative anatomy of primates. Old oval stamp of Auckland Institute Library on the front wrapper and title page, no other ownership marks. The original wrappers are a bit soiled and brown, the new binding (later red cloth over stiff wrappers) is bright and clean, there is mild foxing to one plate only, the rest of the plates and the entire text is very bright and clean; a tight, very good copy..
