Description: London: Henry G. Bohn, 1842. First edition. Pp. vi, 130; 120 full page hand-colored lithographs after the original colored drawings from Franz Andreas Bauer. Publisher's original one-quarter dark green leather with the spine lettered in gilt, over dark green pebble cloth, clay-coated dark green endpapers, 4to. 'Genera Filicum' was one of the most important systematic works on the ferns. The text is by Sir William Jackson Hooker and the fine hand-colored plates are after paintings by Austrian Franz Andreas Bauer, well known as a botanical artist. The plant descriptions are in Latin and English. See also Nissen 924 in Die Botanischhe Buchillustration. Small signature by D. Smiley on the verso of the front free endpaper.
