Title: Fauna Americana: being a description of the mammiferous animals inhabiting North America.
Description: Philadelphia: Anthony Finley, 1825. First edition. Pp. x, 11-318, (2, list of subscribers + errata). Recent tan full calf leather with five raised bands on the spine, with black morocco spine label lettered in gilt, antique marbled endpapers, 8vo. Casey Wood (pg. 377) calls this volume ""an early and important work."" This is one of the first descriptions of the mammals of North America published in the US; some new species are described. Only a few hundred copies were published; 86 subscribers are listed at the end of the volume among them are: J. R. Barton, John Bell, Charles Bonaparte, J. E. Dekay, D. Hosack, Joseph Parrish and others. Rare work. Some light scattered foxing to the text, mostly marginal, attractively bound in recent calf; a tight and clean copy in very good condition..
