Original publisher's ornately blind-stamped red cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt on the spine and with gilt symbol on the front cover, top page edge in gilt, sm 8vo. This is volume XXV and XXVI in 'The Naturalist's Library' edited by William Jardine. This is the complete work on whales and other marine mammals in the Naturalist's Library. Volume XXV also presents a memoir of the life of French navigator, Francois Peron; while volume XXVI contains a memoir of the life of M. Le Comte Lacepede who studied marine mammals among other groups. This is second revised edition. No ownership marks. A few tiny insect marks on the front and rear covers of volume XXV; very bright and clean set in near fine condition..
