Title: The Galapagos Tortoises.
Description: Cambridge: Museum of Comparative Zoology, 1917. First edition. Pp. 257-296; 42 full-page plates (photographs and line-drawings). Later tan linen cloth, with title/author label on the spine (original printed pale green wrappers bound in place), lg 4to. Memoirs of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard College, volume 30, no. 4. This is Thomas Barbour's copy with his long ink inscription along the top of the front wrapper. The inscription begins: ""In my opinion, this is a very poor piece of work and not to be used in preference to Van Denburgh's…"". Obviously, Barbour did not think much of Garman's research. Some professional restorations to the front and rear wrappers, faint stain to the top margin of the front wrapper and half title, faint stain to the outer top margin of the last plate; otherwise, this is a tight, bright and clean copy in near fine condition..
