The San Juan Basin has one of the earliest records of numerous fossil mammal lineages in world. Matthews served as curator of fossil mammals at the American Museum of Natural History, New York, from 1895 to 1927 and as Director of the Museum of Paleontology at UC Berkeley from 1927 until his death in 1930. From the personal library of Dutch vertebrate paleontologist, D.A. Hooijer with his name stamp on the front wrapper, his dinosaur bookplate on the inside front cover and his signature on the upper corner of the title page. Bump to top rear outer corner, slight edge wear to wrappers, few signs of use; overall a near fine copy..
