Title: Das Goldene Evangelienbuch Heinrichs III
Description: Berlin, Deutscher Verein fur Kunstwissenschaft, 1933. Hardcover. Navy cloth/boards with gilt lettering. 92 pp. with 3 color plates followed by and 219 bw plates. Text in German. The Golden Gospels of Henry III, likely made in the Echternach Monastery in 1046. It is one of the major works of Ottonian book illumination. The monastery was famous for its book art, and several important works were created there, including liturgical, iconographic and ornamental works. Today, the original is housed in El Escorial in Madrid. (partially Wikipedia). Contents VG- but with age toning to page edges and a bump to very outer upper corners of some pages; scuffing to covers and wear to edges and corners; rubbing to spine lettering; 4-inch tear to cloth at top front edge of spine.
