Issued in conjunction with a series of 1977-1978 exhibitions, beginning at the Whitney Museum in New York. The plates make up the bulk of the book; the text covers the topics 1) impressions of the artist, 2) a brief history of the work, and 3) the function of the observer. Also includes a bibliography and an index of illustrated works. A revised edition was published in 1994. G (Both boards and DJ are smudged, scuffed, foxed, soiled, but are solid; textblock edges are smudged and foxed; pages are toned at the far edges; binding is solid.) .
