Description: New York, Homer Lee & Co, 1878. Hardbound. 14 blank leaves for autographs (unused), 1 advertisement leaf. Text illustrations by Thomas Nast and other American artists Harte's elaborate poem was modeled after Lord Byron's "Childe Harold." "Cadet Grey" contains the first song Harte ever composed, and was the featured work (occupying pages 9 to 43) of this anthology of military verse. Warren Howell, cataloguing this title in 1979, considered the work "very rare." (Bea and Peter Siegel Books 2008). VG internally, with old oval stamp from Mercantile Library and their bookplate inside front cover. New spine with original spine laid-down, new endpapers, a solid copy. Some soiling to covers, which otherwise are only showing moderate wear to the edges and corners .
