New leather bindings and applied spine labels, five raised bands, new endpapers. 2-volume set, each volume with a portrait frontis, Vol. 1: 466 pp. 24 folding maps. Vol. 2: pp. 467-822, followed by 103 pp. 38 (of a possible 39?) folding maps section on Scotland, and an index to the whole. Numerous folding maps. All maps present, a very rare set of books. Please inquire for more details regarding the condition or for photos. The books measure 4.8" x 7.9" and are quite thick. In volume 2, Vol. 2 seems to call for 37 maps. The map of Richmondshire is lacking, the map of the Principality of Wales is bound out of order. Also, the last called-for map (British Islands) is not one map, but three maps (Man, Jarsey, Garnsey). This means there are [(37-2)+ (3)] maps in this volume, for a total of 38. Bindings are Fine. Dampstaining in vol. 1, primarily to fore-edge margins, but more extensively at the beginning of the book & affecting the 1st 2 maps; dampstaining throughout vol. 2, edges of a few leaves at the back of vol. 2 torn & chipped, with no loss of ptg. Both are solid and crisp, but there is some old soiling here and there, in addition to the staining.
