Front cover bears a full page political cartoon by noted artist Joseph Keppler. Titled "Our Indian Policy," the work highlights fraud and mistreatment of Native Americans at the hands of the US government, depicting Native Americans looking on in disgust as they view ripped blankets, empty rifle boxes, and rancid beef. Joseph Keppler was an Austrian born American cartoonist who helped Brit make political cartoons a popular medium and who often targeted the administration of Ulysses S. Grant. also present is an anecdote told in story form of life for African Americans in the South after the war. While seems the author intended to depict African Americans favorably, they use derogatory terms and characterize African Americans as childlike. FAIR condition. front cover detached along the spine, with small chips and tears along its length. A few other chips and tears along the cover extremities are present. General toning to the paper, with a few small tears along the edges. Fair .
