Title: The New York Organ. A Family Companion. Three Issues Bound Together: May 24th, May 31st, June 7th, 1851
Description: New York, Brognard and Co, 1851. Wraps. Illustrated masthead atop the start of each issue. Three issues bound together of this journal/newspaper devoted to temperance, morality, education and literature. Pagination runs 369-392. Issues contain poetry and stories, as well as short anecdotes and news briefs. Of note is a one column account, in the May 24th issue, of gold mining in California, including mines at the North Fork and American Rivers, as well as violence at the mines, robberies, etc. Another column discusses the opening of the Crystal Palace, with another short blurb on P.T. Barnum and Jenny Lind. Another issue (May 31st) recalls an incident with a noted magician, McAllister at a marketplace, who apparently engaged in what could be termed street magic. GOOD condition. The issues are very tenuously bound together, with the pages likely to detach from each other with much further handling. General toning and foxing. Horizontal fold crease present. Spine edge rather rough, presumably from being extracted from a larger volume. Good .
