Title: Rambles About Portsmouth. First and Second Series
Description: Somersworth, NH, New Hampshire Publishing Company, 1971. Cloth. Beige cloth in unclipped jackets. 420, 407 pp. With new forewords, extra illustrated plates at the front of each volume and new indexes. Maps in rear pockets of each volume. Originally written as weekly columns in his Portsmouth paper, these works were published first in book form in the late 1860's, early 1870's. They offer a history of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and its early settlers and residents, chronicling its growth as a seaport and documenting notable moments in its history. Much information was drawn from local documents and other primary sources. FAIR/GOOD jackets on VERY GOOD books. General fading to the jackets, heavier to the spines. Light soiling. Some chipping, tearing, associated creasing and minor loss to the jacket edges of volume one. Volume two with a long tear along its front hinge, affecting almost the entire length, with horizontal tears making the jacket lift back along the spine. Some chipping, tearing, associated creasing and minor loss to the jacket edges of this volume. Minor fading and edgewear to the books. Interiors clean and solid with minor toning to the paper. Very Good/Fair.
