Author: Van Deventer, Betty Title: How to Conduct a Love Affair. Little Blue Book No. 1566
Description: Girard, KS, Haldeman-Julius, 1930. Wraps. Blue-gray printed wraps. 32 pp. While the title appears to suggest this book will offer ways to carry on illicit entwinements, in actuality, the book offers dating advice for women. Van Deventer, a self-described feminist (in another publication), suggests love affairs, like business ventures, depend largely upon their executive management. She encourages women to diet, if need be, and of "paramount importance," "treat a man's ideas with respect and interest," asserting that men think themselves the prototype of Rodin's "The Thinker." She also encourages emancipated and independent women to suppress those ideas, lest men become threatened. GOOD condition. Wrappers toned, with some soiling and minor staining. Some creasing to the covers. Heavy toning to the text block. Good .
