Author: Various authors Title: The Last Berkeley Tribe. May, 1972
Description: Berkeley, CA, Red Mountain Tribe, Publisher, 1972. Tabloid. Tabloid format. 8 pp. Illustrations and photos throughout. Last issue of this radical, counterculture underground newspaper from Berkeley, California, formed after a split with the Berkeley Barb over labor issues. The Tribe embraced more radical and left-wing causes. This issue deals with the death of the Berkeley Tribe, summed up in an epitaph on the second page, reading in part "victim of overwork, bourgeois individualism movement slump, stale format, transient work force, no pay, declining circulation, bad vibes." Other self-reflections indicate internal strife due to lack of women on the staff, subtly alluding to sexism in the staff. The rear cover is a full-page letter to comrades, sisters and brothers in prison. GOOD condition. Horizontal fold crease present. Moderate to heavy browning. Minor soiling. Some chipping and tearing along the extremities. Good .
