Single issue of this newspaper with a focus on religious topics and events, especially those in New England (including Maine and New Hampshire). While religion is the main theme, this issue has several items of news, most notable being an account of murders in Whitechapel (London) that are associated with Jack the Ripper. The account notes that there were now six victims, "all of them women of the lowest class," whose throats were cut and disemboweled. The article quotes the killer from writing above his fifth victim, reading "five; fifteen more, and then I give myself up." Other unattributed quotes call him a "scientific humanitarian," suggesting the murders were committed in the interest of medical science. Another short article discusses a delegation of Sioux who were in Washington to discussed the proposed sale of half their reservation in Dakota. POOR condition.
