Single stapled newsletter, 8 ½ by 11 inches. 12 pp. The Committee of Returned Volunteers was founded in 1966, consisting of people who had formerly worked in a volunteer capacity in various service programs in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the United States. Adhering to an anti-imperialist stance, the group opposed the Vietnam War and saw racism and imperialism as inextricably linked. Many of its actions focused on anti-imperialist activities in Africa, although domestic concerns were also addressed. This issue with an opinion (by Lynne Weikart of the recent CRV assembly, mostly pessimistic due to infighting among members as to future goals, as well, if reading between the lines, fragile male egos that tended to derail efforts by women in the organization. Also in this issue is a report on writing the People's Constitution, in anticipation of a second People's Constitutional Convention in DC. This was to have been organized by the Black Panther Party. Members of various organizations representing the Black Power movement, the Chicano movement, American Indian movement, women's and gay liberation attended, gathered in various workshops that created declarations to be incorporated into a new constitution in the convention in Philadelphia. While that convention was considered a success, the momentum built from it was stalled at a second, failed convention in Washington, DC, due to disputes over venues, interference from police, etc. GOOD condition.
