Front cover photo of Cleveland Mayor Carl Stokes and Gary mayor Richard Hatcher. Single issue of this long running journal devoted to African-American news, culture and entertainment. Jet was noted for its documentation of the Civil Rights movement and the murder of Emmett Till. This issue discusses at length the candidacies and goals of newly elected African-American mayors Carl Stokes (Cleveland) and Richard Hatcher (Gary). Also included is a short piece on Congress and its whitewashing of police brutality at protests, rallies, and in general. Also present is a photo of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. sitting in a Birmingham jail, taken with a spy camera by Rev. Wyatt Tee Walker. GOOD condition. Area of paper peeled off from front cover, presumably from a mailing label removed. General toning, minor soiling, scuffing and wrinkling. Some scuffing and curling along the extremities. Small piece of upper corner of the front cover missing. Good .
