Side folding tabloid format. 64 pp. Front cover an illustration by American underground comix artist Gilbert Shelton depicting an outlaw biker couple (reprinted from Skull #2). A later issue of this pioneering underground newspaper, known as the Freep. Established in 1964, the paper was known for its coverage of the counterculture movement and radical politics, as well as its strong anti-Vietnam War stance. Financial and staffing troubles led to its eventual demise in 1978. This issue with a piece on right wing bikers or motorcycle gangs and their violence toward political protestors; second part of a lengthy article on women's liberation in Holland; a piece on the Rote Panthers in Germany; a very lengthy article giving American GI testimony on atrocities committed in Vietnam and Cambodia by US soldiers; a piece by Kathryn Paulsen on magic powers and witchcraft; a full page advertisement for the Paranoid album by Black Sabbath, with a smaller ad for a show where Grand Funk headlined; a centerfold Furry Freak Brothers cartoon, etc. GOOD condition. Moderate general browning. Paper slightly brittle. Minor wrinkling along the extremities. Faint horizontal fold crease present. Dn in pencil on the upper front cover. Good .
