Description: No Place, No Publisher. Hard Cover. No publisher, place or date, perhaps circa 1882. Paper covered boards, illustrated, with leather spine and corners. Rear cover bears ads. Oblong folio. 24 leaves, printed on single sides only. A collection of various humorous and satirical cartoons and sketches on different subjects, by George Cruikshank. These span the dates 1828-1832. OCLC records indicate "Originally published by Cruikshank and followed by 'many different printings .. an attempt [by] the artist to become his own publisher and thus derive continued royalties by reissuing earlier works' (cf. Richard A. Vogeler. Graphic works of George Cruikshank, p. 142). Originally appeared in 4 parts, in 1828, 1829, 1831 and 1832." George Cruikshank was an English illustrator, known for his caricatures of English subjects and social life, as well as his illustrations for the work of Charles Dickens. GOOD condition. Heavy uneven toning and darkening to the covers, with some soiling and minor stains. Heavy bumping and scuffing along the extremities, with flaking and loss to the leather. Mostly minor scattered foxing and soiling in the interior. Good .
