A collection of letters asserting the proof of Satan, fallen spirits and their actions in the world, drawing on scriptural sources. William Ellery Channing, to whom these letters were addressed, was an American Unitarian preacher, whose philosophy/thought influenced the later Transcendentalist movement. GOOD condition. Ex-library with pocket, pastedowns, minor interior stamping and spine label present. Moderate scuffing and fading to the covers. Minor soiling. Faint damp/drip stain to the front cover. Extremities bumped, scuffed and worn. Cloth very worn on the spine. Former owner's bookplate present (Daniel Sharp, perhaps the Massachusetts clergyman and one of the founders of the Newton Theological Institution). Minor foxing in the interior. Sabin 80070.
