Five raised bands on the spine, with minor gilt decorations in the compartments. Xix, 288 (plus 2 portraits and a fold out chart at the rear); x, 288 (fold out autograph page at the rear); xi, 301 pp between the three volumes. An index for the three volumes appears at the end of the third volume. With a few portraits and frontispieces in each volume, as well as a fold out timetable chart in volume 1 and a fold out autograph page in volume 2. A general look at painting, sculpture and architecture throughout history, studying many different individuals, as well as trends and movements. This includes painting in ancient Rome, Chinese portrait painting, Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Richard Gibson the Dwarf, the invention of oil painting, Holbein, Jervas the portrait painter, landscape painting, Albrecht Durer's drawings, etc. With many sections on Italian Renaissance painters, English painters, and others. With the armorial bookplate of Roderick Terry at the front of each volume. Volume 2 in POOR condition with the front cover DETACHED but present. Otherwise the others are in GOOD+ condition. Leather rather scuffed along the hinges and corners. Spines a bit faded. Paper scuffed at the center cover of each book. Faint discoloration to a few spots of the leather. Interiors solid, with very light scattered foxing. A few pages cropped a bit close along the fore edge. Dates in pencil along the top of the fold out timetable. Good/No Jacket.
